I want to install a Hand E gripper on a Fanuc LR Mate robot. I have never used Robotiq grippers. Good idea or bad idea for machine tending?

Hi @MartySeal

It can work and we have seen it in the past.
Few things to keep in mind:

  • The Robotiq grippers works in Modbus RTU. In most cases, the LR Mate will work in Ethernet IP. You will then need a Universal Controller to connect in between to "translate" the communication between the robot and the gripper.
  • The the gripper functions are available. Since we don't have a plug and play software to go with this robot, you will have to map the registers of the gripper.
To sum up, we can't call it plug and play, it will take more programming time. But once it is done, it will work just fine.
