I’m trying to get our ur5e with wrist camera and hand-e to reliably find parts coming out of the conveyor on our Swiss lathe. 


The parts are brass 25mm round by 50mm length. The tray they are landing on is painted flat blue. The main issue is when the tray gets oily from the parts, the camera is getting a lot of noise from the reflections. I’ve tried reducing exposure and tweaking focus but every time it seams to always lose reliability after 30-40 parts. If I change to the 3rd camera screen the one that shows color differences the part has a very clean definition but I’m still getting a lot of false positives. I do have color recognition turned on. 

I cannot post pictures due to who the customer is but any ideas would be appreciated.

When you have reflections with the camera you can:

  1. Take the picture with the camera lens inclined compare to the workplan. The maximum reflection is when you have the camera lens parallel to working plan with the LED on. Having an angle will avoid LED light reflection. I would recommend to use holes you have in the part as feature to make you object model. Light does not enter holes so they should appear as blank while the surrounding should be brighter.
  2. Switch off LED and set surrounding lighting which avoid light reflection. Maybe side lighting could help.
