Hello there,
I'm having an issue with my 2-finger 85 gripper. I am using the PC software to activate and control it. Every once in a while, when I go to activate the gripper, the connection would cut out very briefly and an error message would flash for less than a second "Minor Fault: The communication chip is not ready," I had to use the slow-motion camera in my phone to capture the message. The blue light on the gripper would turn off for about a second and then turn back on. I am powering the gripper with a 2.5A AC to DC adapter and I have tried two ATC USB adapters with the same result. Do you have any ideas what it could be?
Best regards,

Hi,
Your Gripper is of the latest generation although we might some firmware update to apply. Could you connect with the Robotiq User Interface and check on the device information tab to give me your actual firmware version ?
To fit it on the UR you need nothing but the correct coupling to fit the robot bolt pattern.
Software package is public and online, the overall setup takes maybe 5-10 minutes. You then have a visual tool to jog the Gripper. You also have built in functions to use the Gripper. No need to map IO or anything like that.Etienne SamsonTechnical Support Director+1 418-380-2788 ext. 207

Hi,
You seem to have a powering \ wiring issue, the communication chip not ready message is probably caused by power loss. Blue LED off = no power.
Could you check integrity of your wiring and of Gripper connector ? Could you also check that your power supply is a stable and reliable 24V DC supply ? There could also be an issue with grounding if it's not done.
Thanks!

The power supply was the issue, I was using what appeared to be a non-switching 2.5A 24V power supply. The minute I wired the gripper to a switching 5A 24V power supply the issue went away. Are there any particular spec for power supplies that you recommend? This gripper in question is mainly going to be used as a demo unit. Thank you.
Best regards,
Hi,
Sorry for the late answer, I'm in training with the UR support manager.
You can have our recommended power supply spec in each product manual. Here it is for the new generation of 2-Finger 85. What is your Gripepr serial number ?

Hello,
The serial number for our gripper is C-3036 2014. Could something be wrong with it?
Also, I heard that there will not be Robotiq firmware for Fanuc Robots, how difficult would it be to convert my Fanuc gripper into a UR gripper? How different are they? Thank you.
