We have an application where I need to have a tool changer on the UR5 so that we can switch between tools during operation.  Has anyone used either the ATI or Schunk system with the UR robots?  If so, what was your experience with it?

I have not seen much clients using tool changers on UR robots. Most clients using tool changers were on industrial robots such as Fanuc, Kuka and so on. I don't see any issues with this on the UR though. I think that the repeatability of the UR is good enough to perform tool change. I think that force mode of the UR could also be used to ensure proper tool changes.

@matthewd92, In Taiwan, we sold Gripper 85 & RSP(Robot Sysytem Products - Sweden company spin-off from ABB) tool changers (TC20/TA20) with UR robot to Toyota Motor early of this year, and we also sold ATI tool changers to industrial robot customer- e.g ABB robot end users, most of robots brand could suitable with ATI, RSP or Schunk, the key point is chosing the right tool changer payload and fitted with robots and applications, also the air channels, electricl signals or power need to considering when connect to outside tooling (e.g air spindles, or electrical spindles when deburring, cutting, or routing). We have some successful applications in selling the ATI/RSP tool changers with industrial robots, especially for ABB and Funac robots in past years, of course the UR robots could using the tool changers on different applications.

So I thought this was interesting. Last week at IMTS I learned from one of the Schunk guys that they actually source their small tool changers from ATI. His comment was the main reason to buy from Schunk would be to have a one stop shop for the changer and gripper. Now I don't know if this means they are the exact same unit or just ATI produces them. But either way thought I'd share. 

Schunk is Affiliate company of ATI, that show on the ATI's website, our Europe senior manager told me too. The Russian website show the all branded robotic tool changers,
that interesting - PROMARCHIVE , even most of robots and applications could find in this website, it's better to comparisons for buyers.
